Critical introduction – Barber
The story is about an old barber which with an old barber shop, in Brighton . I took many different people in these days, at the last, I choose he, because he is the person who touch me mostly. He is a barber, just a normal barber.
This include seven photos in my work, the character is very outstanding, almost he’s in the middle of the photos, he is an old man, and he is a barber. As the viewer’s sight, he is nice, friendly, and always works with his smile, smile to everyone, his customer, and strangers like me. Another important factor that I choose this barber is that I like his shop, a very very old barber shop, already been in church street over thirty-five years! This is a barber shop that very different from where we have hair cut nowadays, without luxury decorating and furnishings open the door of the shop, you can see white wall, windows, old-style sink, dark chairs and mirror, which are all. No extra decoration, and all the things looks clear and clean, it seems like they all been here for many years, a special smell all in the air, through the heating, full in everywhere in the shop, nostalgic breath made me warm and relax.
In the photos, you can found there is an establishing shot that I took outside of the shop, which include the whole shop and the character in the shop, this is the first photo that I what to introduce what is the shop look like and the relationship between the barber and the shop, and then, I have a photo that the barber is reading, he said that is his favorite entertainment when he is free, after that, three shots from different angles that context the barber and his customer , you can see that he always with his smile on his face, and do his best for every customer, as his own word: ‘I do not just cut the hair, at the same time, I enjoy it’. For his job, also what is happiness in his life. There is a detail shot that he’s cutting the hair, conveys that he is seriously with his work. At the last, is a mid-shot that the character face to the len and give a big smile, like he always do to his customers.
We can see that not many people in his shop, and almost customers are old and to the shop since they are young, they are not only his customers, also become his friends, and the shop is not only a shop, it already be a location that context his life, it become a place that he can not live without it.
